In a Cumbrian junkshop, I found a typed, bound account of a backpacking
journey across Normandy & Brittany - prety much exactly D-Day country -
but this is 1912.

Last December, I gave a talk to the Liverpool History Society, re these
six friends.

I know now that the account - with over 70 p[hotos, belonged to Frederick
Ivor Pulford,of
West Derby,  17th Bn, KIA 12/10/16, Thiepval Memorial.

They travelled to France as ' Mr Pulford's party' - Pulford was educated
at the Institute.

An article on part of their story was published last year, in a journal
( cambridge)

The French adventure - ( he was with a girlfriend - so was his Collegiate
friend) - gives one more of the Somme Missing a history -
The Collegiate man served in the RAMC, published the RAMC part of
Liverpool's part in the war, 1919, and a later ( 1928) history too.

If anybody is interested, or can comment, please contact me.

Could you help me trace my fathers military history please.  I  was born in 1958 and the war was never talked about, I found a photo of a group of soldiers - on the back was Lubeck 1945 and dad was in the middle!

What I know - he was in the TA, vollunteered for service prior to WW2 starting,  he was in the Kings - liverpool, he was a PTI, military policeman (Royal corps), he trained commandos?, he was billited in the Palace hotel in Inverness where he met my mum, think he was a sargent. He was awarded an oak leaf - think for escorting a German officer - maybe Hess.
he was Robert William Tuddenham, born 1920, and when de-mobbed lived in Inverness.

Sorry not a lot to go on but any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I have been researching the history of a scottish WW2 battalion for 4-years, and speaking to surviving veterans from the 6th Royal Scots Fusiliers. Some time ago I spoke to a gentleman who I believe had served in the 8th Batt. of the Kings Regiment, and following the Normandy landings he was later posted to the 6th RSF. I am not sure if his former battalion was disbanded, but I do know that quite a number of men from the 8th Kings ended up in the 6th RSF.
I would be grateful if you could tell me if this information is correct, and indeed if it was possible to get in touch with any veterans who served in both battalions.
I would be more than happy to write a more detailed account of my research.
Yours sincerely,

William
