A service of dedication for the new Standard of The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment Association, Liverpool Branch, took place at the Liverpool Anglican Cathedral on Saturday 4th July 2009 at 3.00pm.
VIPs attending the service included Brigadier M Griffiths, Deputy Colonel, The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, Colonel M G C Amlôt OBE DL, Deputy Lord Lieutenant for Merseyside and Councillor Mike Storey, Lord Mayor of Liverpool.
The new standard was borne to the High Altar by The King’s Regiment Association, Liverpool Branch Standard Bearer, John Schofield, and was handed to The Very Revd Justin Welby, Dean of Liverpool, for the dedication service.
Lieutenant Colonel R Hughes TD read the first reading from the book of the prophet Micah and Mr Alan Meaker the second, a reading from the letter of Paul to the Philippians.
At the end of the service the standard was returned to the Standard Bearer, John Schofield. John in turn handed the new standard to Stan Castell BEM, who has volunteered to be the Standard Bearer for this new Standard.
A post-event reception was held at Townsend Avenue Barracks, Liverpool.
